OUR LOCATION
Outdoor Adventure Canoe Outfitters is located on White Iron Lake, just 3 miles from Ely, Minnesota. Take route 169 East out of Ely, past the International Wolf Center, turn right on Kawishiwi Trail. One mile and seven tenths down that road, turn right onto Pine Road, and follow our sign.
ELY'S AIRPORT
For those wishing to fly directly to Ely, we have a modern 5,500 foot blacktop runway. The airport has VOR, complete administration facilities, aircraft service, gas, and plenty of tie downs. It is located about 5 miles south of Ely.
DULUTH, HIBBING, OR ELY AIRPORT TRANSPORTATION SERVICE
For guests desiring to fly to either Duluth International Airport, Hibbing, or Ely airport, Outdoor Adventure offers van service to and from our base. See this year's rate sheet for charges to and from Duluth and Hibbing airports. Our van will meet your flight and bring you directly to our base.
Always reconfirm your flight time and number to us at least 24 hours before your arrival. Depending on the number of people in your party, it could be more economical to fly to Minneapolis, rent a car for the week, and drive to our base in Ely instead of paying the extra costs to fly to Duluth and our charges to pick you up and return you to Duluth. It's about a 5-hour drive from Minneapolis-St. Paul airport to our base. Just indicate on your reservation form that your arrival will be at Hibbing or Duluth airports, including flight times.
FLY-IN TRIPS
For guests desiring to fly to the outskirts of Quetico Park, we can arrange for your flight with a seaplane. You will be picked up at our dock. A Beaver Aircraft can seat four and can carry a canoe on the outside. If your party needs more than one canoe, we can have additional canoes pre-positioned on Lac La Croix.
You can fly-in and paddle out, fly-in and fly-out, or just fly-out. Most of our guests choose to fly into Lac La Croix which enables them to fish the fabulous lakes of Darky, Wicksteed, Ballard, Argo, and Middle Roland. There is a quota on the number of guests allowed to enter Quetico Park so EARLY RESERVATIONS are STRONGLY ADVISED. You can, however, fly to Lac La Croix, paddle back and camp entirely on the U.S. side.
There is also a quota on the permits to paddle back on the U.S. side, so make your reservations as soon as you know your dates. Call or write for current flight charges.
TRANSPORTATION SERVICE TO OUTLYING ENTRY POINTS
Outdoor Adventure has a fleet of vans and fast launch tow boats to transport you to various entry points to start your trip, or to pick you up at various exit points after your trip is over. Seaplane service is available also. This means that we can transport you to an uncrowded entry point to start your trip at a time convenient to you. (See the reservation form for entry points with and without charges.)
