We offer three superb wilderness base camp fishing trips for those people who want to spend their time fishing instead of paddling and portaging. These are also ideal trips for those who are new to the wilderness and want a base camp trip or two before traveling into the interior regions of the wilderness.
Our Base Camp Trips offer some of the finest northern pike, walleye, lake trout, and smallmouth bass fishing in northern Minnesota.
Basswood Lake Base Camp Fishing Trip
This trip offers fantastic fishing for smallmouth bass, walleye, northern pike, and lake trout. Included with this package is fast launch service both to and from Washington Island. This means that you have no portages since your gear will stay in the tow boat going across Prairie Portage; you have just 5 miles to paddle to reach your base camp area from Washington Island. The area recommended for your Base Camp is quite sheltered from the wind; and with the fast launch service you should have camp set up and be fishing your first day. The best time for this trip is late spring or early summer.
Lac La Croix Base Camp Fishing Trip
Lac La Croix has some of the finest smallmouth, walleye, and northern pike fishing in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. After breakfast at our base, one of our vans will transport you, your canoes, and all your camping equipment to Crane Lake where you'll get fast launch service to the Ranger Station. From there you paddle to Boulder Bay or Lady Boot Bay of Lac La Croix, and set up your camp and fish for 4, 5, 6 or more days.
On your last day, paddle back to the Ranger Cabin and the tow boat will take you back to Crane Lake where we will pick you up. Both areas offer excellent fishing and are quite sheltered from the wind. This trip is best in late summer or early fall.
Crab Lake Base Camp Fishing Trip
On this trip you experience the luxury of base camping with the solitude found on smaller chain lakes. You can set up your base on Crab or Cummings Lake, and then paddle the various loop routes with just your empty canoe and a shore lunch. Smallmouth Bass and Northern Pike fishing is what this area is known for.
Many other basecamp locations available in and out of the BWCA.
